Hey all.

Just a heads up that things are going to look a little bare around here.  I'm dropping my web host at the end of the month, and I have dozens upon dozens of pictures hosted there that will cease to be.

Fear not!  I have backups of everything; I just need to reroute ALL THE LINKS.  *dies*

Also, none of my downloads are going away, as they are hosted elsewhere.  Just wanted you all to know I'm not dead.

I am still sad that I missed the Christmas in July Exchange at GoS.  I completely, totally spaced it and didn't go to the site for a month.  Oops.  I hope to be back as a participant for Christmastime there.

In the meantime, I broke down and finally installed the Sims 3.  I've been playing an inventor/writer/tinkerer guy named Edgar Frankenmuffin and although I totally love him as a Sim - my love of the game is not so great.  Things are weird and glitchy and I really don't like the general LOOK of the game.  I also made a pact with myself that I WILL NOT DOWNLOAD CUSTOM CONTENT for it, since it chugs on my machine as it is.  After playing several weeks with Edgar in Moonlight Falls (of course I would want to play there!), I think can say "eh" to Sims 3.  I'll keep it on my computer, for now, but I'm not going to make stuff for it, nor am I going to embark on huge massive projects for it!
I do dig this guy, though.  He's amazing.

See how I set up that paragraph?  So clever.

In the "huge massive project" department, I've started a build-a-city challenge in Sims 2.  Kind of.  Sort of.  I've never been able to play any challenge EVER as written, and this is less about the challenge and more about telling a story.  I'm writing the story and illustrating it with the Sims, but how the game goes is going to influence the story.  In previous challenges or legacies, I always had trouble between "taking a bunch of pictures and making something up" and "controlling what goes on and making it all scripted."  I'm not much of a reality TV fan, if you couldn't tell.

I don't want to spoil anything, as I've only got the prelude up so far, but I'll probably be spending a lot of time with this.  That includes the possiblity of making custom stuff as I go, which I will gladly share with you lovely fellow simmers.  You can check out the website here @ Amberlin if you're interested in what I'm doing.

I am unreasonably proud of this house...and this picture.

I'm also still working on the Shadowfell Medieval Dye Actions, which are going less awesome as they were initially.  I don't think I'm really going to be able to make them able to overlap one another to do multi-dyes, and I'm thinking about leaving the actions with the multiple layers available for individual tweaking instead of flattening them.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?  Most of my photographer actions don't flatten the layers at the end, and most of the color actions I have do.  I think being able to make subtle changes as you go makes them far more versatile.  Otherwise, you can just Ctrl+Alt+Z to undo the last action like I do.

Just a small update from me.  I've been stalking all of your journals and downloading your things, so I haven't gone too far.  :)

I'm already revising the mansion in my head as I go.  I really scaled everything down to fit, about half size, and it's bothering me.  Most of the hallways are only one-tile wide, and the dining room is just tragic looking.  I've resigned to finish this one, though, by removing ALL my custom content from the game so I'm not categorically sorting things for my custom version.  I WILL finish it and make it downloadable.  :D

Scale problems aside, I'm really happy about how things look at this point.

I've started my superhero hood.  I made several cute little affordable houses and moved my first generation sims in.  I'll do another post with pictures since I haven't yet taken any.  Each house has been played for the first five days to give my sims a head start in everything.  Not that it will do them much good.

Hilariousness thus far:
  • The Green Arrow, who is my official Gen Zero, rolled the LTW to have 20 Simultaneous Lovers.  Since I have Almighty_Hat's Proportional Age thing installed, I'm going to let him do it.  Starfire was the first victim...I mean consenting adult.
  • He also was the first Sim to set fire to the stove.  On day one.  With two cooking points.  None of my other five houses had this problem.  He really is made of fail.
  • I downloaded Pyxis' geneticized and townified defaults of her Venice skins, including the supernatural ones.  I've already seen the zombie one turn up twice - one on a guy whom Psylocke brought home from work and the other on the Matchmaker.  Perfect.
  • Namor the Sub-Mariner and Starfire have something going on.  It's been all autonomous, but damn kids, get a room.  Except for Oliver seducing her, of course.  Oops.
  • Namor also wrote a novel, which totally bombed.  He took the phone call and then trudged up to bed.  I laughed and laughed.
  • With the amount of flashing blue accessories I have going on with this first group of Sims, I'm thinking about making everyone in plain-clothes.  I really do not want to have to edit almost everything single item in SimPE to get it to work, nor do I want to have to dig through my overstuffed accessories folder  every time I load one of the Sims with the problem.  Ugh.  Every time I start one of these projects, I end up finding 100 extra things I have to do before I can really get started.
So that's it in a nutshell thus far.  I'm hoping today the fun really will begin.

EDIT:  Because I'm crazy, I went ahead and edited two of the annoying meshes in SimPE and they're now working properly.  I have three more to do now, and as many as I find when I start bringing in another premade Sims.  Blah.

I am officially done with my Secret Santa gift and I am thrilled.  I hope my Secret Santa loves it.  Now on to refilling my downloads folder with the rest of my custom stuff so I can get back to work on my Superhero Hood.

The Secret Santa project is coming along great!  I'm about 2/3 done with it.  I hope my Santee loves it as much as I do.

I might post another super secret sneak peek tomorrow.  Just as in real life, I hate waiting to give out presents.  I want to hand those bad boys over the instant I have them in my possession.

I have one more damask wallpaper to photograph in game, make pictures for, and gather up for downloads.  I started trying to make a swatch pic the other day, ended up having to write everything out and cross it off as I went, and I still ended up missing some.  :P  I got frustrated and gave up for the time being.  But there's one more in the works; don't worry.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I started a legacy on Boolprop which only technically reached Gen 2.  The problem was I was having so much fun making up stories that I sort of got side-tracked.  Plus, the wife of my Gen 2 heir had that obnoxious "6 kids through college" lifetime want, so there were a lot of kids.  I think I stopped at seven?

Sounds pretty boring, right?  Just your typical legacy and all.

But it was about SUPERHEROES.

I downloaded all the Marvel and DC comics characters I could find from everywhere.  They didn't even have to be good-looking Sims.  Heroes, villains, the works.  And it was the most fun I've ever had playing the game.  I don't often actually play the game, so this was a surprise to me.  IF you're bored and have an hour or so, you can go read the 12 Chapters of the Super Legacy I have up on the Exchange.  It's still hilarious to me.

I also had a run with the Asylum Challenge featuring Gotham's Finest and Those Weirdos Who Hang Out In Arkham All The Time, but it never was actually recorded.  That and technically I lost twice; once from Batman catching on fire and the second because he was out playing in puddles in a rainstorm and was struck dead by lightning.  I cheated and made the Joker plead for his life.  It was so worth it.

Last week I decided I wanted to try again with my original legacy idea - every generation heir has to marry the opposite comic company.  And I have to start again with Green Arrow, because Olly makes me laugh so hard.  I've also had the itch to make this legacy an actual comic book, which means lots of extra work for me.  So I've been gearing up, exploding my downloads folder with hundreds of accessories (oh Lord, the superhero accessories) and all these Sims.

I haven't decided if I'll post the comic here or on my Sims site, which is still Under Construction anyway.  I also have to start actually playing to make this work.

Yesterday, I was compiling my Excel spreadsheet of everyone I have Sims of (because I'm organized like that - ha) and was again highly disappointed at the lack of DC Sims floating around on the internet.  Sure, there's Superman and Batman, all of the core Justice League, but I want the lame ones.  I want Vigilante and Shining Knight and Red Tornado.  (I have Booster Gold and Blue Beetle, thanks.  I love them both dearly).  So I've made up my mind to make more of the JLU for everyone's benefit and have them available here.  And maybe some more Batman villains.  Because can you EVER have too many Batman villains?  No.  Things may get a bit wacky around here; just fair warning.

Well, I'm off to use my Google-fu to dredge up costumes for these characters.
